A quarter of a century ago, The Times reported Two well known Sheffield firms which have been the pioneers in the production of non-corrodibale steel in this country, Thos. Firth and John Brown Limited and the English Steel Corporation Limited, have decided to pool their interests in the manufacturer of this important product. The decision , The Times went on to say, of the two principal firms interested in the manufacture of special steel to pool their resources of brains, capital and plant should lead to the most economical developments of a growing branch of the steel industry . These words marked the birth of Firth-Vickers Stainless Steels Ltd., created on 1 Nov 1934.
